ChatMet is built on anonymity. We do not require registration, collect your real name, or store your conversations after a session ends. This policy explains the minimal data we do handle.
1Information We Collect
We collect only what is technically necessary to operate the service:
- Session username: A temporary alias you choose. It is not tied to any real identity and is discarded when your session ends.
- IP address: Logged temporarily to prevent abuse and enforce rate-limiting. Not linked to conversation content.
- Device / browser data: Standard technical information (browser type, OS) collected via server logs for debugging purposes.
- Images shared in chat: Transmitted in real-time between users and are never stored on our servers after the session.
We do not collect your email, phone number, government ID, or any personally identifiable information.
2How We Use Your Information
Any data collected is used solely for:
- Matching you with a chat partner
- Preventing spam, bots, and abusive behaviour
- Diagnosing technical issues and improving performance
- Complying with legal obligations where required by law
We do not sell, rent, or trade your data to any third party for marketing or advertising purposes.
3Data Retention
Chat messages are held in memory only during an active session and are permanently deleted when either user disconnects. No chat logs are written to disk or stored in any database.
Server access logs (IP + timestamp) are retained for up to 30 days for security purposes, then automatically purged.
4Cookies & Tracking
ChatMet uses minimal cookies strictly necessary for the service to function (e.g. session tokens). We do not use tracking cookies, advertising cookies, or cross-site tracking technologies.
We may use privacy-respecting analytics (such as aggregated, anonymised page-view counters) to understand overall traffic patterns. No individual user is tracked.
5Third-Party Services
Our service may rely on the following third-party infrastructure:
- Hosting / CDN providers โ for delivering the web application reliably.
- Google Fonts โ fonts loaded from Google's servers; subject to Google's own privacy policy.
We choose vendors that respect privacy. We do not embed third-party ad trackers, social media pixels, or fingerprinting scripts.
6Children's Privacy
ChatMet is intended for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has used the service, please contact us and we will take appropriate action, including removing any associated data.
7Your Rights
Because we collect almost no personal data, most privacy rights are satisfied by design. However, you may:
- Request confirmation of what (minimal) data we hold about you
- Request deletion of any server-log entries tied to your IP address
- Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority
To exercise any right, email us at the address in Section 10.
8Security
We implement industry-standard measures to protect the service, including HTTPS encryption for all traffic, server hardening, and access controls. No system is 100% secure; if you discover a vulnerability, please disclose it responsibly by contacting us directly.
9Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. Continued use of ChatMet after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
